JENIN, Thursday, November 9, 2023 - Nine Palestinians were killed in an Israeli raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The raid led to intense fighting, with black smoke rising over Jenin and multiple explosions and gunfire heard.

The Palestinian health ministry reported that the current death toll in Jenin stood at eight, with 15 other injured. The Israeli army confirmed its forces were operating in the northern West Bank city, but did not provide further details.

WAFA reported that “more than 100 military vehicles and two bulldozers” took part in the raid that targeted Jenin and its refugee camp. The four people killed were aged between 23 and 28, a ministry statement said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that an ambulance in Jenin was targeted by the occupying forces, resulting in a bullet injury to one of its officers in the back. Furthermore, they were prevented from entering the camp to provide medical assistance to the injured.

Military drones hovered over the area during the raid, while snipers were positioned on buildings around Jenin’s main hospital. Part of the hospital’s perimeter wall was also demolished by military bulldozers. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.

Dozens of Palestinians have been killed in recent months by Israeli forces in Jenin, particularly in the city’s refugee camp where armed groups are present alongside tens of thousands of residents. Israel has occupied the West Bank since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and its troops regularly launch raids across the Palestinian territory.

Israel launched its genocidal atrocities in the Gaza Strip on October 7, killing more than 10,500 civilians, with over 40% being children. Israeli forces have killed at least 170 Palestinians and arrested more than 2,000 people across the West Bank SInce October 7, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club advocacy group. The Israeli military has put the figure at more than 1,000 and said most are affiliated with Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that rules the Gaza Strip.
