In a nail-biting match at Dharamsala, India continued their outstanding performance in the ongoing World Cup, clinching their fifth consecutive victory by defeating New Zealand by four wickets. This impressive win propelled India to the top position in the ten-team points table, marking a significant milestone in their World Cup journey.

The match began with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill providing India with a robust start in the challenging 274-run chase against New Zealand. The duo, displaying exceptional skills in boundaries, contributed 71 runs for the first wicket. However, their partnership was broken when Lockie Ferguson dismissed Rohit for a well-played 46 off 40 balls. Shortly after, Gill fell for 26 off 31 balls, further intensifying the competition.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then took charge, adding 52 runs for the third wicket. Trent Boult managed to break this partnership, dismissing Iyer for 33 off 29 balls. KL Rahul joined Kohli, and the pair added a crucial 50-plus stand before Rahul was caught by Mitchell Santner for 27 off 35 balls. Suryakumar Yadav, making his World Cup debut, faced an unfortunate mix-up with Kohli, resulting in his early departure.

Amidst the challenging conditions, including a brief halt due to haze and low visibility, Kohli stood firm, completing his half-century and guiding India to a vital victory.

Earlier in the day, India's recovery in the last 10 overs, led by Mohammed Shami's remarkable five-wicket haul in his first match of the tournament, restricted New Zealand. Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra's formidable 159-run stand came to an end, thanks to Shami's brilliant bowling. While Mitchell showcased an exceptional innings, scoring 130 off 127 balls, New Zealand struggled in the last 10 overs, managing only 54 runs and losing six wickets.

India's bowling unit faced challenges initially, especially with the absence of a sixth seamer due to injuries. However, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami made crucial breakthroughs, and India managed to halt New Zealand's momentum.

Notable performances included Kohli's steady batting, forming crucial partnerships with both Iyer and Rahul. Ravindra Jadeja's all-round contribution and his 50-plus stand with Kohli further strengthened India's position.

The match also witnessed Kohli's 69th ODI half-century, underlining his consistent form in the tournament.

Mohammed Shami has been declared as the Player of the match for his five-wicket haul.

In summary, India's victory against New Zealand showcased their exceptional teamwork, resilience, and ability to overcome challenging situations. With this win, India has solidified its position as a formidable contender in the World Cup, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead.

Hats off to Team India for their outstanding victory!
